Find Ramsey County Court Dockets

Ramsey County court dockets list every event in a case: filings, hearings, orders, judgments, and notices. The Second Judicial District publishes dockets through the state's online portal. The same portal lets users search Ramsey County court dockets by party name, case number, citation, attorney, or judicial officer. A docket entry is short, often abbreviated, and dated. The dockets feed in from each court division: civil, criminal and traffic, juvenile, family, probate, and the suburban site. Hearings move between in-person and remote formats under the statewide oneCourtMN policy.

What a Ramsey County Court Docket Shows

A docket is the chronological record of every event in a court case. In Ramsey County District Court, the docket is called the Register of Actions inside Odyssey. Each entry shows the date, the event type, and a short description. Filing entries name the filer and the document. Hearing entries name the courtroom, judge, and hearing status. Order entries name the judge and link the order document when public.

Some events appear as one-line abbreviations. Common entries include "Notice of Hearing," "Order Filed," "Sentence," "Disposition," "Judgment Entered," "Warrant Issued," "Warrant Quashed," "Failure to Appear," and "Probation Violation." The docket also tracks payments, restitution, and bond posts. Each entry stays in the file even after a case closes.

Pending Criminal and Traffic Docket Limits

Minnesota's online docket has a name-search carve-out. Pending criminal, traffic, and petty misdemeanor cases without a conviction will not return when a Hearing Search or Case Search runs on a defendant name. The same cases return on a case-number search or a citation-number search. The rule is in the MCRO terms and reflects the Minnesota Rules of Public Access. Once a conviction is entered, the name search starts working again on that case.

If a Ramsey County hearing notice is missing online, try the citation number from the ticket or the case number from the court letter. The traffic court records page walks through the citation lookup. The arrest records page covers the criminal docket and the difference between an arrest and a court charge.

Note: A Ramsey County docket search by name will return convicted criminal and traffic cases, but pending no-conviction cases need a case or citation number.

Remote and In-Person Hearings

The Ramsey County District Court schedules hearings under the statewide oneCourtMN Hearings Initiative Policy. Each hearing notice tells the parties the correct format: in-person, remote, or hybrid. Some calendars stay mostly remote; others stay mostly in-person. The court page warns that the hearing notice controls the format, not the public docket label. When in doubt, the parties should call the court at 651-266-8266 or read the hearing notice on MCRO.

Public observers may attend most hearings. Civil commitment, juvenile, and OFP cases are usually closed. Cameras and recording are barred unless the court approves under the technology rules. The court's locations and hours page lists the building rules.

Searching the Ramsey County Docket by Judicial Officer

The Hearing Search tab has a Judicial Officer mode. Picking a judge or referee returns every scheduled hearing on that calendar. The list also returns hearings in other Minnesota counties when the judicial officer rotates, so a Court Locations filter on Ramsey keeps results local. The same approach works for attorneys: the Attorney Name tab and the MN License Number tab both return hearings handled by a specific lawyer. Bar license numbers come from the Minnesota Judicial Branch attorney listing.

Knowing the calendar matters for two practical reasons. First, the calendar tells parties which courtroom and judge to expect. Second, the Register of Actions on each case ties back to the same calendar entry, so the docket and the hearing list match. A discrepancy usually means the case was reassigned, the hearing was continued, or the entry is brand new and has not synced through Odyssey.

Common Docket Events on a Ramsey County Case

Each Ramsey County District Court file collects the same kinds of events. Filings open and move the case. Hearings produce orders. Orders sign off, continue, or close events. Below is a working list of the events seen on most public dockets.

  • Complaint Filed / Petition Filed — opens a civil, family, or probate case.
  • Citation Filed — opens a traffic or petty misdemeanor case.
  • Notice of Hearing — sets a date, time, courtroom, and judicial officer.
  • Continuance / Vacated — resets or removes a hearing.
  • Order / Order Filed — the judge signs a ruling on a motion or final issue.
  • Judgment Entered — final civil money or court judgment.
  • Sentence — criminal disposition with fines, conditions, or jail.
  • Warrant Issued / Warrant Quashed — arrest warrant added or recalled.
  • Failure to Appear — a party missed a hearing.
  • Bond Posted / Forfeited — bail event tied to a criminal docket.
  • Satisfaction of Judgment — a money judgment is paid.

An entry can be a one-liner, but a sentence event or a judgment can run several pages when the order is attached. The downloadable PDF, when allowed, sits next to the entry on MCRO.
